I was maybe too negative about the Wild Things yesterday-- there is something about the Eggers version of childhood that I find a bit irritating. But the misgivings were borne out by Eliot this evening, running up the stairs, "It's fun to be wild and crazy!".
On the other hand, the movie has provided food for meaty conversations with both kids. Eliot needed to talk over the family interactions and whether Max did the right thing by running away. For her, the monsters were simply funny. Anselm was sensitive to much more of their dynamic and also the tension of Max's role.
