The joy of food

Last weekend, to celebrate an increasingly rare night when all the family was home, we went out for dinner to a nice, chic Italian place. Anselm loved the tagliatelle with ragu, while Eliot knelt up nibbling on a tiny fried fish which she dipped into a creamy herb sauce, wiggling her whole body back and forth with delight. She ate up squid ink pasta, clams, roast pork and baby cauliflower gratinee, with real joy... and she loved talking to the waitstaff: "Can I have a glass of water please? Can we order now? Can we order dessert please? Do you have lollipops?". My baby.

Tonight we went to the last night of our new nanny-to-be's exhibition at a Caribbean restaurant, Kallaloo, in Columbia City. While Blaise and I had a great meal, the kids were a little stumped-- Anselm ate rice, and Eliot, papaya and beans.
