Like mother, like daughter
Bharathi had an amusing post today about her nicknames for her kids (we are each other's #1 blog readers so not surprisingly we come out quite correlated occasionally). My two are showered with many variations around their particular nick-theme. Anselm's root nickname is Potch, suggested by a description in a Vonnegut book I was reading perinatally of the sound of patting an infant's tummy. Eliot's are centered on Ellibone, Jellybone, from the old English bellibone (beautiful and good, belle et bonne). She replies in kind. I'm sometimes the actual family Mum, but also, variations from the last few weeks: Mami, Mama, Mambi, Mamoo, Moma, Mooma.
