This evening we took the kids to a preview and reception at the Tacoma Art Museum, where our friend Don's exhibition was opening. Don and Pat have spent the last year in India, where he has collaborated with local sign painters to produce some beautiful and striking paintings on metal around the theme of global trade, with a Seattle (circa 1999) perspective. To be frank, we'd never been to Tacoma before, and liked the look of the industrial-urban scene.. enough to think about another visit. The evening was great-- we saw some friends, had "oriental" hors d'oeuvres, enjoyed the art, and the kids were totally engaged. They especially loved the finale-- a performance and lesson of Indian dance.
