Art purchase

Here is an artwork we bought recently-- at the school auction. The kids made two things that we then, somewhat weirdly, had the opportunity to buy: these oil pastel pieces, and a pottery rice bowl/sushi plate set in deep blue and red (very pretty) that the kids made and glazed. The class also produced a beautiful quilt that sparked a bidding war-- alas, there was a "buy it now" option that considerably undershot, it appeared, what parents were willing to offer.

We didn't stay for the live bidding-- too excruciating-- but in the silent auction, I made an attempt on three days in a house on Whidbey Island (missed it) and 10 hours of handyman services. That might turn into a long-term relationship! Anselm will do a couple of the "teacher experiences" too.. a Mexican crafts afternoon and Mr P's famous lantern-making workshop. It was all more fun than I expected, with quite a few tempting items (condo in Kauai! house on the Cape!).
