The culmination of a perfect and uncharacteristically busy weekend for Anselm-- Blaise's talk, the SAAM visit, Tova's pool party, egg-hunt and park trip with Miles and Rachel, bike-riding-- was hosting our Sunday afternoon inaugural book club meeting. Five boys this time.. we managed about 45 minutes of discussion about mythological origins, plot lines, and responses to the book and characters before the energy level went up too high. I admit that I was not too hopeful about the prospects for this idea (initiated by one of the class mothers), but Anselm was enthusiastic from the get-go and had a wonderful time, preparing notes in advance, reading through back stories with me beforehand, and with lots to say. He seems to be losing a lot of his reticence recently, speaking up more in class and much more interested in drama camps etc. He said he would like to do it every weekend. It truly was fun to see the kids' excitement about books.

Wow. 45 minutes of discussion? The girls in Girl Scouts, a year older, have never managed to sit still that long.
Oh.. they discussed-- they didn't necessarily sit still! but not too bad. Hard to talk about exciting things without hopping around. In the middle I read them the story of Zeus' birth, which helped keep calm.
