Sakura at home

A beautiful spring day so we headed up to Volunteer Park this afternoon. Full of people picnicking, reading under trees, playing ball, twirling things to music, practising tightrope-- a joyous display of outdoor human existence. The girl zoomed around on her bike while Anselm wanted to practise hitting a ball with a bat (apparently one sport was left out of the camp weekend). Once the edge was taken off the energy we enjoyed browsing the ukiyo-e exhibition at the art museum. The kids especially liked Hokusai's Mt Fuji views, and were fascinated by the geisha images. Of course we are always thinking of Arno and Lucinda in Tokyo, and our wonderful trip there. This time of year in particular, with the amazing cherry blossoms, and the elusive but stunning glimpses of Mt Rainier, Seattle seems to feel a spiritual connection with Japan.
