As last year, the lab and the family did a weekend trip up to Crystal. This year both kids went to ski school. Eliot is a rank beginner but, as her instructor said, "Her real strength is her positive attitude!". Tell us about it-- she spent the entire weekend enthusing, about her underlayer clothing, her gloves, the idea of ski school, swimming. She had been wanting to go up to the snow for a while and apparently the reality didn't fall short of expectation. This morning I made them "silver dollar pancakes" for breakfast and she was momentarily disappointed to see that the pancakes were not indeed silver. But this instantly turned into a great admiration for the beautiful golden color that they actually were. After class yesterday, she turned and ran through the snow directly up the mountain, so today instead of afternoon class, we took her for a hike up the mountain into the forest above the condo.

Anselm took classes yesterday and this morning, but my students then very sweetly took him out for the afternoon. He is a "weak blue", according to his instructor, but with Mike and Julijana, he was game to try some serious blue runs up high-- doing jumps and all kinds of stuff that it was probably better we remained unaware of. They were up all afternoon and he came down exhilarated.
True to their respective A and B type personalities, Eliot was sorry she didn't get to use poles on her first morning; and Anselm is dreading having to move on to using them.
