Eliot and I went to see Garden and Cosmos, an exhibition of "royal paintings of Jodhpur" at the SAAM on the weekend. Wonderful, stunning paintings and a great many of them.. multiple visits will be required. While I enjoyed the palace scenes--of the ilk of miniatures we are familiar with but on a grander scale-- the depictions of, for instance, the creation, and Vishnu travelling across the ocean, intense textured fields of color with solitary celestial figures, are extraordinary. Eliot was interested in some scenes with elephants and monkeys, declared a few of the images "beautiful", but also enjoyed entertaining herself in the kids' activity room while I browsed.
