Eliot's words
Bharathi sent me a fascinating website link listing the percentage of kids knowing particular words at a given age. Eliot got all the usual ones in close to the standard order, except food items that we don't really give her (cookies and crackers, in particular), down to about 15% frequency, then has a bunch more scattered down the list. It's interesting to see how standard the acquisition ordering is. But she has a few of her own special ones-- e.g. "statue" and "bidet"-- that don't show up anywhere :-). Yesterday she learnt to say both "blackberry" and "raspberry" after discovering that our harvested blackberries were considerably sweeter than the raspberries from the Farmer's Market. She loves climbing onto her "hss", her rocking horse (actually one of her two rocking horses, thanks to an inheritance from Lucinda and Arno). She's currently very into identifying people as "baby", "guh" (girl), "ma" (man), "laie" (lady), and occasionally, boy. ("Mama" and "Da" are of course categories all on their own.) After the trip to New York, her favourite book right now is about Lisa's first airplane trip alone (Lisa is a small white American dog who lives in France).
