Who knew?

Tonight I attended a roast for Marge Anderson's retirement at a very beautiful conference center five minutes from the University. Seattle continues to surprise.

A lot of commentary revolved around Marge's being the first and, for a while, only woman faculty member in PBio. Not that hard a situation to imagine given the lack of women in, say, Princeton's or the Weizmann's physics departments.

I never gave up the old game of "count the women" at conferences. In the computational meetings, the ratio is still around 10%. Not a big improvement over physics. In fact, sometimes it seems that it's the same old people.
