So far so good with the public school system, now on day -3. Anselm has received a hand-written postcard from his new teacher, and we have a 6 page letter from her introducing herself, explaining the many sensible classroom policies, and offering to send home her weekly newsletter in Spanish or have it translated into other languages. No school supplies! ("as these tend to cause conflicts among the children"). No homework! But she will provide a monthly calendar of math and reading activities to be completed together at home. Seattle Public Schools sent us our secret code for their website where we get access to Anselm's "schedules, grades, class assignments, attendance and standardized test scores". Tuesday is a one-hour open house/orientation. We think Anselm will take the challenges in stride. He and Blaise have been sharpening up reading and writing skills, and he's very confident in his mastery of the school monkey bars.
