Ben and Jerry's predicts the zeitgeist

Trader Joe's has a new Ben and Jerry's flavour: Fair Trade Vanilla. Blaise points out that we have moved from late '80s-'90s excess (New York Super Fudge Chunk) through late '90s escapist juvenile regression (Choc Chip Cookie Dough) to a more serious time. (They are consistently ahead of the curve: 2001 brought the introduction of the new packaging "ecopint".) Maybe Bush will have that one positive: putting an end to the party by casting us into a long depression, from which we must do good to emerge.
