I am in San Diego, and took a quick dash out today to see the sea. Here's part of the beautiful seashore in downtown La Jolla. Anselm will love climbing on the eroded rocks and tidepools when I bring him, hopefully on the next visit down (at minimum, on one of two trips scheduled for next year, April and July). It reminds me very much of Sydney-- except the topography is simpler, it's full of seals, and the bar and coffee situation cannot compare. What's more, you can't swim, only surf. But anyway. Kids will love it. I love it. It's like my childhood.
