Three birthdays this weekend: Liam, Anselm's classmate, had a "Mad Science" party at their house around the corner right after aikido yesterday morning; our neighbour Christine's birthday brunch was this morning; and this afternoon the kids and I went to Leela's (and two classmates') most entertaining Hawaiian party at the Mountlake Terrace pool. Both the kids had a fine time splashing-- Anselm went off on his own and wasn't seen (especially without my glasses on) for the entire swim portion of the party. In general, the ratio of parents to kids in the water was dramatically reduced since Leela's previous party there, last year. The birthday girls were dressed as a hula trio, with most becoming flowers in their hair. Eliot and Anselm sat with Avi, dressed as Nemo, at the party part and Eliot made a reasonable semblance of being a big grownup kid, calmly and concentratedly eating her pizza and cake and singing along to "Happy Birthday", which she'd been practising all morning.
Aside from those events, on Friday evening we had a lovely dinner at Craig and Stefania's. We also hosted two dinners, yesterday evening a small dinner party with David, Chris and Grace (that's David of Seadragon), and Joseph (formerly of our house), and tonight Barry and Abby, who don't have many more weeks before the twins arrive. Eliot was hilariously stricken by the much longed-for Barry (and Abby), alternately laughing and needing to hide her head in Mum.
Feel like I've been moving nonstop all weekend. But everyone slept through the night last night, for a change, and I've lost that jangly dislocated feeling that followed me through the week.
