Aftermath
When I said nothing was broken, I meant no antiquities and no china. This morning, time to process the extent of the damage in the hurricane that passed through the house, with its epicenter in Anselm's room, last night. Better than it looked.. just a couple of losses-- the box the magnets live in, Anselm's model boat, etc. He is the kind of kid who loves itty bitty toys, and he and I are pretty good at keeping them sorted into labeled boxes. He spent a while the other day arranging the magnets back into their colors. Put 7 boisterous under fives into that room, and you have a predictable result. We have tried to train the kids to be respectful of things: not to break stuff, draw on things, rip books, tip everything out everywhere. This clearly has fit with Anselm's careful nature, and it seems Eliot's too, so who knows if it is training or otherwise that has saved us. At least in our house! I don't know what they do unobserved by me. I think last night we just saw the law of large numbers (household version) at work. Fortunately Anselm was easy about it all.
