Downtime in the islands

Today and tomorrow are the vacation part of this vacation. When I arrived back midafternoon from the school, the kids were still sound asleep in a four hour nap (they have til now been keeping up quite a pace in the land, for us, of the rising sun). We skipped lunch in favour of the indoor pool; when 5pm brought a lessening of the sun, we moved to the outdoor pool. With Eliot in waterwings, they both swam around quite independently. In the picture she is saying: "No more pictures!".

Then buffet dinner at one of the hotel restaurants: every item unfamiliar, beautifully presented and delicious. The kids split a huge plate of octopus spaghetti: Anselm took the spaghetti, Eliot the octopus. She also tried the purple Okinawan sweet potato salad, while Anselm sampled some seaweed in a sweet jelly, and they both loved the tofu part of a bitter gourd stirfry. They were also both enthusiastic about the several flavours of icecream in tiny cups. After dinner we walked and ran along the beach and climbed rocks until the sun went fierily down.
