Anselm is half-way through the Lemony Snicket books: he and Dad, who is doing the reading, seem to be quite addicted. The books are dark but clever and funny, and teach about literary devices and the structure of narrative in a charming way.
Eliot is hooked on Hop on Pop. Unlike boy, she tolerates my sounding out the words and putting my finger on each word, and she tracks the words-- Anselm hated that and would look anywhere but. He also found Hop on Pop's subject matter very disturbing: people fall off the wall, fight, get stung by bees and bitten by tigers. It was all too much. Not for the fierce one.
