48 hours in Lisbon

It's been a fun stay. I was picked up at the airport on Sunday evening which made it possible to drop my bag at the hotel and be on a tram into the center within half an hour of my flight coming in. I wandered through the downtown and ventured toward the Alfama (but changed my mind), and settled on a seafood restaurant on one of the wide, straight, handsomely cobbled walking avenues near the river for dinner-- a delicious dish of fish and seafood in a broth, cooked in a beautiful Portuguese copper pan, single person size, with those great Portuguese chewy buns.

Monday I had free to sight see and prepare my lecture. Monday is the closing day for all the museums and monuments, unfortunately, so I mostly just wandered around town, saw some views, ate as many meals as seemed more or less justifiable (sardines!). One stop of note: the Cathedral, the floor of whose cloister has been excavated to expose Roman, Moorish and mediaeval remains. Really fascinating. In the evening I joined a group headed for the Bairro Alto for dinner and caught a spectacular view of the city from the platform.

Today I gave my lecture-- four hours worth!-- but finished up around four and got the train back to the Museum of Antique Art. And after that, happily, there was still time to go inside the Mosteiro. Now, off for another feast!
