Like a boy?

Yesterday on our way out of the house Eliot told me "I like a boy-- I dressed like a boy." I tried to figure out what she meant without actually enumerating to her in what ways her clothes were girl clothes-- brown riding boots, a white baby doll pleated blouse with silver thread, a scalloped vest, a pink and red striped crocheted cardigan-- without success. This morning, walking Anselm to school, she ran sideways most of the way, saying "I have a skateboard! I [am] like the boy! I [am] like boys!". She deeply admires one of our neighbourhood students, a supercool 4th or 5th grade miniature surfer dude who shoots by the house every morning on his board. Even Anselm is inspired to try it. Helpful ideas for our birthday shopping. Jessy says that if they get skateboards (/scooter for the smaller fry), she will teach them. That's good, since I failed skateboards.
