Now for a novel subject..

.. the kids. Blaise is on a design panel in Barcelona and as usual when one of us is travelling, the kids are being extra sweet. Anselm in particular takes great care to say he is enjoying his dinner, even if he's not so much, speaks gently, asks nicely, thanks everyone, keeps an eye on Eliot's needs while I'm busy, and maintains everyone's good mood. He is really a selfless and good-hearted little person. I can see him following in his Yaya's footsteps and joining the Peace Corps one day.

Eliot is braving her way through her version of whatever I have had for the last week. She tries to be bright and cheery but she starts to fall apart as soon as dinner is done, and NEEDS to go immediately upstairs for a quick bath and bed. To stall so Anselm and I could finish our pizza (an excellent one! legacy of Jessica and Blaine, the Trader Joe homemade pizza, this time with buffalo mozz and prosciutto), I put her on my lap, where she took my hand and stroked her own head with it. I peeked in to check on her very late last night and she was wide awake-- came a little "Hi!" from the darkness. I asked her how she was doing and a tiny, weak, but brave voice answered "Better!".
