We have been having a lot of fun with music lately. We've been singing the Harry Belafonte song, Turn the world around, which the kids, Mr Key and our African artists-in-residence performed gorgeously at the multicultural night. It was the perfect finale to the evening, led by the 5th graders in their high, pure tones but eventually with the whole school and the entire audience joining in. Very memorable, and an inspired choice for the night. Here's a great version that I found this morning.. I knew I knew it from somewhere. (Got to figure out how to embed the movie directly!).
The Tokens' The lion sleeps tonight is also getting a lot of play, since Eliot discovered a hippo lipsynching to it via links on youtube (I know you needed that link: almost 5 million views). The kids have been accompanying on the beautiful bongos that Mike and Helen gave Anselm last year.
Eliot was obsessed for a few days with another multicultural night discovery, Ebony and Ivory, and loved watching the original video clip with Paul and Stevie. Think we're over it now (phew).
