More coyote news: our neighbour, Christine, saw a coyote in full daylight in the Arboretum today. As she was describing it (as "cute"), I suddenly realised that I saw one a year or two ago before we moved house. It was a doggish looking creature loping in a very undoggish fashion, and at the time I didn't know what it was: the plague of cat killings had not yet begun.
I still find it very romantic that we have coyotes on our doorstep. As one might find it romantic that Mum and Dad drive past fields full of kangaroos every morning, maybe. (Except, in our case, for the dead cats, if you care about that sort of thing).
