New York

I jumped on a plane to NYC last night after attending a reception for UW Medicine faculty who have recently won things-- quite a nice event, and presumably a chance to give some positive feedback to some of our donors.

Of course I hadn't quite prepared my talk, so I got a quick nap at the guesthouse at Rockefeller (a masterpiece of '50s chic), wrote the talk, had lunch with Marcelo and Maria, and then gave it at 4pm. Actually I think I'm getting better-- more fluid-- in the delivery of talks. But there was no standing ovation, so not quite sure how it went over.

I ate at my usual upper West Side choice, Celeste, then wandered around the city trying to decide yet again if I still love it here. Getting drenched in unbelievably heavy rain (no such rain is ever seen in Seattle) waiting for a nonexistent available cab earlier this evening might have given a slight setback to the "we must move back here immediately" movement.
