Notable in the news

First, an appalling story of racism in Switzerland. My friend Damian's friend Claire Berlinski has written a very interesting book about the current situation in Europe.

Second, the appearance of electronic spy-dragonflies over gatherings in DC. A leap forward for neuroscience and robotics, a leap backwards for civil liberties. It seems a little difficult to believe, just yet, but the admiral's "I'll be dead when they deploy" comment says more about his age than the state of the art.

The NY Times had a satisfying op-ed on separation of church and state brought to my attention by my student, Brian.

Finally, my hero Paul in Princeton had, as always, some choice words about movement conservatism.
