Fun in the City

After the rainy start, we've had magnificent sunny, breezy weather and a great time. Blaise arrived early Friday morning, gave his talk in the afternoon and left before dawn on Saturday for the next engagement in Denver. We spent the day in meetings with the fascinating people of Rockefeller-- 9am til 11pm-- while Jessy and kids visited the dinosaur bones, played in the park and ate pizza.

Today was an Anselm and Eliot day. After pancakes at Manhattan Diner, we walked across to the Met. We visited the Egyptian and Assyrian galleries, with special emphasis on mummies. Anselm was particularly struck ("Mum, I can't believe you just walked by these!") by some wooden caskets found inside graves that were stacked with tiny figurines, servants for the deceased in the next life.

After the Met, we met Marcelo, Magde and Gabriel for a walk down to the children's zoo in Central Park-- our first visit there, and it is charming. Anselm walked, ran, climbed, rolled, slid, petted and jumped from finishing breakfast at 10.30 until we got back to the apartment at 7pm, with maybe a 5 minute sit for a hot dog. He also did something new and completely self-generated. We had bought a metal-covered notebook at the Met (repeatedly his favourite souvenir choice) and throughout the afternoon he made little sketches of everything noteworthy we saw and did.
