- weekly detailed descriptions of what the kids are up to and the teaching strategies behind their activities
- Carlen's newsletter gives gentle advice as to how to engage with the kids' schoolwork
- reminders and much care about things to be turned in
- great open-ended "homework" that is fun to do
- 2nd grade reading buddies that the kids first met in a gardening experience
- daily PE: new songs and games every day
- awesome afterschool activities: Anselm's starting "Mad Science" and gymnastics this week. There was also chess club, yoga, 3D art and African drumming.
- we are hearing more and more about it all directly from Anselm, which is a great sign: he seems really happy.
Homework emphasizes getting families to incorporate mathematical thought into daily life. Don't think we were short on that but more can never hurt. We really like measuring things and making graphs. Graphs worked for toilet training and it is working for chores.
This month the kids are talking about feelings and have been learning techniques for relaxing during negative feelings. While making dinner tonight, Anselm asked me "Are you stressed?". My five year old life coach.

It sounds like mother and son are enjoying kindergarten. The easiness of the new friendships sound good as well.
